A HISTORIC WIN FOR NEW YORK CITY SERGEANTS
A Contract That Honors Your Service & Dedication
RETRO PAY CALCULATOR
After a relentless and hard-fought battle, we've achieved a groundbreaking contract that brings historic financial gains for all sergeants like never before. With this contract, the City has finally acknowledged the critical role of NYPD sergeants by eliminating an unfair pay gap that left many supervisors earning less than the officers they oversee—ensuring that those who take on greater responsibility are compensated accordingly.
This achievement was only possible because of strong union leadership and the unwavering dedication of our members, who showed up, stood strong, and ensured we were taken seriously at the table.
1. EVERY SERGEANT MOVES TO TOP PAY – FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER
As of December 10, 2024, every sergeant who was not previously at top pay will be elevated to top pay, eliminating up to three years of substandard pay for some sergeants.
This has never happened before in SBA history.
2. MASSIVE RETROACTIVE PAY – 18.77% COMPOUNDED
The contract includes full retroactive pay, totaling 18.77% compounded over 60 months (5 years).
Every eligible sergeant will receive what they are owed, based on their promotion date and rank history.
3. PROTECTING OUR MEMBERS – NO GIVEAWAYS
We secured these gains without making significant concessions. The only adjustment was a minor trade-off of 5 minutes of allocated wash-up time to ensure pay equity for all sergeants.
UNITY & ACTION MADE THIS HAPPEN
This contract was won because of you—because our members showed up, stayed engaged, and made sure we had the power to demand what was rightfully ours.
Our union leadership fought relentlessly to get the best possible deal, and we prevailed.
Voluntary 12-Hour Tour Pilot Program
Separate and apart from the contract agreement, the SBA and the City have established a voluntary pilot program to test a 12-hour tour schedule in select precincts.
Participation is strictly voluntary.
The program will be limited to a maximum of 50 sergeants.
The pilot will operate in four commands: the 45th Precinct, 47th Precinct, PSA 8, and Transit District 11.
All sergeants department-wide are eligible to volunteer.
The program is temporary and will sunset after 9 months.
This pilot program does not affect contract ratification and was negotiated independently of the core contract terms.
